In a Car Accident, I Was Saved by God
By Wang Hua, Greece
I worked as an accountant for a school. One afternoon in August 2007, about 2 o’clock, my colleague and I rode our motorcycles to go to the central school district to fetch books. He was talkative. At the beginning, I looked at the road ahead as I talked with him. Later on, I only cared about talking but didn’t look forward. Then, all I heard was a loud “bang,” and my motorcycle hit a dirt wagon. Immediately, I fainted away.
When I woke up, I saw my colleague was so frightened that he just stood there, petrified. I tried to stretch my legs, finding that I was able to do that. So I thought there was nothing wrong with my body. Then I tried to rise to my feet, but my head couldn’t move. Only at that time did I realize that I had been seriously injured. I could not feel anything in my teeth either. Besides, my chest was still bleeding, and then I thought: If I continue to bleed in this way, even if I didn’t knock myself to death, I will die due to loss of blood. I shouted loudly, “Help! Help!” However, after I shouted several times, my colleague still stood at my side without moving as though he didn’t hear me at all. Only then did I realize that I had lost my voice.
There were more and more bystanders surrounding me, but no one dared to come forward to see and support me. I lay on the ground like a dead man. I thought: I can’t die. I must live! Therefore, I raised my head with all my strength. At that point, as my colleague saw that I was alive, he hurriedly came forward to support me to sit up. When I sat up, I only felt my head was so heavy that I couldn’t hold it up, as if there had been a pot on it. Then, I saw that my motorcycle was more than ten feet away from me, and that one of my slippers was knocked to the opposite road of ten meters away.
My colleague sent me to the health center of our town. My nose kept bleeding and when the doctor plugged one of my two nostrils, the blood flowed from the other, like starch noodles. After a simple treatment, the doctor transferred me to the city hospital. I was put on a drip on an emergency ambulance, and several medical personnel were by my side. One of them said, “If you had been sent to our hospital a little later, your life would have been in danger.” After arriving at the city hospital, I took a CT scan, which showed that my nose was broken, that my mouth was distorted to the ear and that my two incisors were also knocked off. During the treatment, at first, my teeth were unable to move. For a month, I could only eat congee and drink powdered milk and I also underwent two operations on the nose bridge.
Once I talked with a patient. During our conversation, I came to know that we were hospitalized on the same day and that he also had a car accident when he rode his motorcycle. At that moment, a handlebar of his motorcycle stuck into his chest, his thighs were fractured and broken, and there were several gashes on his head. I saw his legs were bandaged up and that his head was wrapped in bandages. His crutches were at his side, and he was just like a wounded soldier who had just returned from the battlefield. Hearing him say that perhaps one of his legs would be amputated, I thought I was really fortunate compared to him.
After a period of time, I recovered gradually and the bridge of my nose returned to its original shape. Not only was my nose not scarred at all, but I could breathe normally. In addition, I had lost so much blood, but I still didn’t suffer from anemia. It was really inconceivable!
After this car accident, my colleague preached God’s gospel to me. Gatherings and reading God’s word made me understand some truths and know that the fate of man is controlled by God’s hands and that whether we live or die shifts according to God’s thoughts. Recalling that car accident, I felt God’s care and protection. This is what the Bible says, “Because you have made Jehovah, which is my refuge, even the most High, your habitation; There shall no evil befall you, neither shall any plague come near your dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways” (Psalms 91:9-11).
I really obtained blessing from this woe! Through this car accident, I had a chance to believe in and follow God, which was God’s special grace for me. Thank God! Amen!
